I have a Stihl FR106 backpack trimmer that has been rock solid for me ever since I bought it new. Today however when I went to fill it I found the plastic gas tank had cracked open along the top seam. Stihl does not provide parts for this model and ebay had nothing. Does anyone know where I might look for a gas tank it? Or failing that is there a process for fixing the plastic gas tank?
Someone here wanted to buy this trimmer a year or so back but it was just too much trouble to box it up. Now I wish I had sold it. Last month I had to put a coil on my FS250 and now my FS83 is acting the same way. It's getting expensive to mow the lawn.

- Loop handle (R)
The loop handled grass trimmers and brushcutters are ideal for working in areas where space is limited, e.g. thinning between bushes and shrubs.
- STIHL ElastoStart
STIHL ElastoStart reduces the shock caused by the compression of the engine during starting. The compression shock is taken away from the user's joints and muscles through a spring or rubber element in the starter handle.
- Manual fuel pump (Purger)
Orcad free full version with crack. A small fuel pump delivers fuel to the carburettor at the touch of a button. This reduces the number of starting pulls required following extended breaks in operations.
- Anti-vibration system
Intense vibration at the handles of power tools can lead to long-term effects on blood vessels in the hands and arms. STIHL has developed an effective anti-vibration system whereby the oscillations from the machine's engine are dampened which significantly reduces vibrations at the handles.
- Multi-function control handle
Easy, comfortable thumb-operated control means the operator's hand never leaves the handle.
- Shoulder strap / carrying system
Casino machine tricks. Using a STIHL shoulder strap or carrying harness with soft padding makes work more comfortable, particularly during lengthy jobs.
- Decompression valve
The decompression valve allows some of the compression pressure in the cylinder to escape, so less force on the starter rope is needed.
- Compensator
A controller in the carburettor prevents the fuel-air mixture getting richer as the air filter becomes clogged. The correct quantity of fuel is delivered to the carburettor depending on the quantity of air passing through the air filter. This keeps the fuel/air ratio in the combustion mixture constant and hence also the engine power. The filter doesn't need to be cleaned until an appreciable drop in power occurs.
- Goggles
It is important to protect your eyes from debris and harmful UV radiation. A pair of safety glasses is supplied with this machine. Please note, additional face protection must be worn when working with brushcutters.
